The 1950's saw four-speed turntables introduced as a way to accommodate the multiple playing formats introduced by the 45 RPM and the 33 1/3 RPM LP at the end of the 1940's.

Portable phonographs and turntables incorporated into full-entertainment pieces of furniture with their components of radio, television and phonograph would continue to offer the stage of the world to enter the home.
