By Axel Boilesen, 2004
Note: in September 2004 Axel wrote
some brief notes after having just updated his last will and
testament. Most of those notes were used in the Family Tribute
portion of his memorial service on March 25, 2013. The following
are additional notes that should have been included:
Speaking of his wife Betty, Axel
said:
As you know she loved to
cut out and save writings on living quality lives. Certainly
if we could make this trip one more time there would be many
things we would do differently and better. Things we say,
more laughter, dancing, listening and reacting to others,
less controlling, less political and more considerate.
Another note I came across in
his papers was something that he had written down (Mom also
was always making a note or clipping out a newspaper article
that especially appealed to her). In this case the source was
Mary Bray Pipher's Seeking Peace: Chronicles of the Worst
Buddhist in the World.
"Not all minutes are
created equal and only a few become moments...What makes
moments distinct is that we are celebrating what actually
is."
DBB Addendum:
Dad always liked Willie Nelson so I've added the Highwayman
song to this page since he was a civil enginner who worked for
the Soil Conversation Service his entire career designing watersheds
and was a "dam builder."
Also this song is really about
"Next Time", i.e., "I am still around, I'll always
be around and around and around and around and around...or perhaps
"simply be a single drop of rain."
